What kind of adverse affects might my 20 month old have from inhaling charcoal ash?

My son climbed up onto my cold bb-q grill and it flipped over on him. He was not hurt, but the ashes all fell on his face. It only took me seconds to get to him, but his face was completely covered and his mouth was opened in his effort to cry. The ER doctor was confident that he had not inhaled enough dust to hurt him, but I am still afraid his lungs could be damaged. Could some one please give me some educated advice. Thank you for your time.

  1. I would have to side on the ER doctors evaluation ... if their was significant exposure ... your child would be admitted to the hospital with difficulty breathing ... probably wheezing and persistent coughing ... all of which you have failed to provide as a consequence of "exposure" ... your child should be fine ... assuming none of this occurred ...
