What are all the adverse effects of txt messaging, instant messaging & online chat-rooms?

Increased use of Text messaging, Instant messaging (IM) and online chat-rooms are having adverse effect on the way we communicate with Friends, families and in general with everyone. What do you say?

  1. not really.. i live far away frm my parents and school frnds.. these r the only ways i can keep in touch with them
  2. I agree. And a lot of things get taken the wrong way by communicating this way. I know it;s happened to me. people are hiding behind these devices and not learning how to deal with people in person.
  3. I think it all depends on what extreme you are using these tools. For me, it's easier to deal more rationally with situations that make me upset if I have time to think about how to react. There have been times when I'm faced with a situation and I react one way in person, but when I get home and think about it, I feel completely different, so I'll e-mail, IM, or text the person and tell them how I really feel. I can't find the words right off the bat sometimes. Even though these help me express my feelings in a more thought out manner, I would much rather communicate over a cup of coffee in a friends home, or my own.
